A curtailed curriculum

It’s simply not possible to teach everything that was planned for 2020. The year has been derailed too severely and for too long a period of time. In response, the Department of Basic Education has reduced the government curriculum, providing guidelines on what should be taught and what should be assessed. It has also indicated that schools need to adapt these guidelines to suit their specific circumstances and the needs of their learners.

That said, schools still have to ensure that they are building a strong enough foundation for their learners – many of these learners still have years of education ahead of them. A multi-year approach to this planning process is therefore essential.

In this episode, we look at the different solutions school leaders are developing to deal with planning and assessment.
